As the needs of the Greater Hartford community evolve and diversify, so too does our response. Since our humble beginnings, we have added to, changed and improved our campus facilities to accommodate new residents and programs and to create an environment that best serves the needs of older adults and the underserved poor.
Over the years, our capital campaigns have drawn the support of benefactors, families and friends of the Sisters of Mercy who share our vision to enhance the quality of lives for an aging population. Most recently, through the generosity of individual donors, corporations and foundations, we remodeled the Archbishop John F. Whealon Chapel of Our Lady on the third floor of Saint Mary Home, installed Automatic Defibrillator Units at The McAuley and Saint Mary Home, and opened a Library for the residents of Saint Mary Home.
At present, we are at the midway point of our Gateway Project Campaign to increase accessibility and enhance security at Saint Mary Home. On Mercy Day in September, 2010, The Most Reverend Henry J. Mansell, Archbishop of Hartford, blessed the remodeled Frances Warde Towers Entrance and Lobby to Saint Mary Home. Now, our work on the project takes us outside the main entrance. We will turn our attention to the exterior of the building, which will benefit from extensive reconfiguring and landscaping. Our plans include providing a porte-cochère to make it easier for family members and others to pick up and drop off their loved ones no matter the weather, new circular driveway to provide better, quicker access to the front entrance, increased visitor parking, and enhanced lighting for those travelling into and out of Saint Mary Home.
Gift Opportunities
- Create circular driveway and add covered portico leading into Saint Mary Home
- Levelling the grounds, removing non-functioning brick stairways on either side of the Entrance to Saint Mary Home
- Lighting for the Entrance, sidewalks, parking lots
- Widen the road in front of Saint Mary, redesign the parking areas, add handicapped accessible parking spaces
- Landscape the walkways, add drainage, benches, trees, shrubs
