The mission of Mercy Community Health does not stop at the boundaries
of our campus -- we are committed to promoting wellness and enhancing
the quality of life for all people, especially those who are sick, poor
and underserved.
Our community is closely interconnected with the surrounding
community, and we have a long and rich history of community and global
outreach through activities like our Global Outreach Program and Take 5
Program.
Global Outreach Program
Through the Global Outreach Program, Mercy Community Health seeks to
share our medical, clinical and administrative skills with those who
are in need around the world. This outreach program translates caring
into commitment and puts our faith to work abroad. By partnering with
in-country colleagues, we help support health community development and
provide health services to the economically poor.
The Global Outreach Program is provided in sponsored facilities
in Guatemala, Haiti, Peru, Brazil and Jamaica. Over the past several
years, Mercy Community Health has sent nursing personnel, a dietician
and pastoral counselors to provide assistance in these impoverished
communities.
Take 5 Program
MCH also participates
in local community outreach programs through our Take 5 Program, a
program where a team of staff members representing each of the
ministries on campus meets monthly to plan activities to assist our
local community in various ways.
Mercy Community Health asks our staff to donate at least five hours a
year to projects coordinated by the Take 5 Program. Structured
activities are planned each month. Some of the Take 5 activities each
year include:
- House Beautiful (indoor house painting for Mercy Housing and Shelter)
- Blood Drive through the American Red Cross
- Back to School Drive (collecting school supplies for needy children)
- Clothing Drive (collecting winter coats, hats, gloves, etc.)
- Thanksgiving Food Drive
- Christmas Project (for a local shelter)
- Mercy Housing and Shelter Soup Kitchen
