Hope and Help for Haiti

The Mercy Community Health family continues to keep Haiti and its people in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.  As a member of Catholic Health East, Mercy Community Health has a direct link to the Hospital St. Francis de Sales in Port Au Prince through Global Health Ministry, also sponsored by CHE.

At the request of Archbishop Miot, who was fatally injured in the January 12 earthquake, Global Health Ministry helped to fund the new maternity building at Hospital St. Francis de Sales.  This building was scheduled to open in February 2010.  Miraculously, it weathered the earthquake.  Home to two delivery rooms, patient suites, a reception and waiting room along with other clinical support stations, the building became a makeshift emergency surgical center on January 13.  Right now, Global Health Ministry is mobilizing a medical team to go to Port Au Prince, and appointing a technical support team to help rebuild Hospital St. Francis de Sales when infrastructure is in place.  Those interested in volunteering for either of these efforts should contact Sister Mary Jo McGinley at mmcginley@che.org with the following information:

1.)  Name; work and cell phone numbers
2.)  City and state where you live
3.)  Expertise you would bring
4.)  Language skills (please note fluency in Haitian Creole or French)
5.)  International medical team experience

We expect that the Hospital St. Francis de Sales will need significant funding to rebuild and continue to serve the poor of inner-city Port Au Prince as they have since 1881.  You can help by sending a monetary donation to:

HSFS Rebuilding Fund

Newtown Square, PA 19073

Or, go to the secure site www.globalhealthministry.org and click on the "Make a Donation" button.  On final "Review Your Payment" page where it says "Donate for Someone Special," please type "Haiti Earthquake Relief."

Global Health Ministry is a 501-C-3 not-for-profit charitable organization registered in Pennsylvania.  All donations are used for services to the poor.  Donors receive no goods or services in exchange for their gifts; therefore, all donations are 100% tax deductible.

May God bless you for your generosity of spirit.
