Alzheimer's and Dementia Care

At Saint Mary Home, Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care is characterized by a safe, structured and secure environment as well as by caregivers who exhibit a loving acceptance and validation of individuals receiving our services.  Our work with individuals suffering from the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementia calls us on a daily basis to put into practice our Mercy Core Values of reverence for each person, integrity and courage.  Mercy Community colleagues understand that in addition to tending to a resident’s or client’s physical health, they are compelled to help these individuals to maintain their dignity, independence, and spiritual well-being.

Our clinical excellence in the area of Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care distinguishes us in this critical field; so, too, does our outreach to the loved ones whose lives are touched by these devastating illnesses.  Each month, Saint Mary colleagues facilitate two meetings:  one for spouses, the other for all family members who assist with caregiving responsibilities.   The purpose of these gatherings is to convey helpful resources, techniques and coping strategies.  There is no fee to attend, and while walk-ins are certainly welcome, advance registration is preferred as we do serve refreshments at each meeting and want to be sure to have enough for all who share their time with us.

For more information or to register in advance, please contact Eileen Cleary, director of dementia education and programming, at 860.570.8335 or ecleary.smh@mchct.org.
